The Rise of Donor-Advised Funds: How It Happened, Why It Matters, and What We Should Do About It
The last several years have seen a dramatic increase in donations to donor-advised funds. While many observers say that this is a helpful trend that is attracting new dollars to the charitable sector, Alan Cantor, a leading critic of donor-advised funds, asserts that funds going into DAFs are not adding to the charitable pie, but are in fact diverting funds from operating nonprofits. Cantor will offer a historical overview of donor-advised funds, along with suggestions for making DAFs work better for charities and for society. Much of the time will be reserved for an open discussion of this controversial and vitally important subject.
